A solemn Islamic remembrance prayer for the late former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama will be held in Accra on Sunday, November 16, 2025, the family of the late Vice President has confirmed.

The ceremony, an annual tradition since the passing of the late Vice President 13 years ago, seeks to pray for Allah’s continuous mercy upon the soul of the late Vice President, as well as bring well-wishers together in his remembrance.

This year’s ceremony, which will be held at the residence of the late Aliu Mahama at the Switchback Road, Cantonment, Accra, will bring together family members, political leaders, Muslim leaders and members of the general public.

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, will lead Islamic prayers for the 13th commemorative ceremony.

In Islamic tradition, continuous prayers for the departed by dear ones are strongly recommended, as such prayers seek God’s mercy upon the soul of the departed.

Alhaji Aliu Mahama, a distinguished politician, served as a two-term Vice President of the Republic of Ghana from January 7, 2001, to January 7, 2009, under the administration of President John Agyekum Kufuor.
