Tragedy struck the peaceful town of Mampong, near Kansaworado in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, on Sunday, August 17, 2025, after a 20-year-old man reportedly stabbed his junior brother to death over a padlock.

Reports indicate that the eldest brother, identified only as Yaw, stabbed 17-year-old Paa Kwesi to death after their argument got out of hand and escalated into a full-blown confrontation.
According to local sources, the incident stemmed from an argument involving a broken padlock.

Reports further indicate that the suspect fled the scene after the incident and has not been located since.

Speaking on Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show with host Nhyraba Oaa Jwesu Simpson on August 8, 2025, the chief linguist of the area, Nana Kwamena Famanyame, gave a detailed account of what transpired.
He narrated that the siblings lived under the same roof with their mother and stepfather.
He explained that Paa Kwesi had gone to retrieve his phone, which he suspected was inside his elder brother’s locked room.
The search led to a disagreement, which reportedly spiralled out of control.
Nana Famanyame said:
“The younger brother, who is now deceased, believed his phone was in his elder brother’s room. After many hours of looking for his brother, with a specific goal of getting his phone back, he decided to break the padlock to access the room. “
“When the elder sibling returned and realised his junior brother had broken into his room, he became angry, leading to a confrontation. He then pulled a knife and killed his brother instantly.”
The tragic occurrence has left residents of the community in disbelief.
Law enforcement officers from the Kwesimintsim District Police Command, assisted by the Anaji Police, visited the scene and transported the deceased’s body to the morgue.
Meanwhile, police investigations are underway, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the suspect.
20-year-old stabbed over stolen motorbike
In a related development, a tragic confrontation over a suspected stolen motorbike at Ada Beach on Monday, August 4, 2025, left 20-year-old Prince Gad dead.
According to reports, Prince identified a motorbike he believed was stolen and confronted the individuals in possession of it.

The situation quickly escalated into violence, resulting in Prince being beaten and stabbed to death.
News of his death spread rapidly to Kpotame, a community in Sogakope, Volta Region, where Prince hailed from.
Some angry youths from Kpotame protested over their colleague’s killing by staging a retaliatory attack.

This led to another fatality at a local filling station.
Authorities are yet to release any statements regarding arrests or the status of investigations. The community remains in fear, mourning the deaths and awaiting justice.
President Mahama grants amnesty to 998 prisoners
YEN.com.gh had earlier reported that President John Mahama granted amnesty to 998 prisoners following recommendations by the Prisons Service Council.
The categories of convicts granted amnesty affected 787 first-time offenders and 87 people on death row.
A statement from the presidency indicated that the president initially received 1,014 recommendations for amnesty.
