A 20-year-old man, identified as Prince Gad, has tragically died following a violent confrontation over a suspected stolen motorbike at Ada beach on Monday, August 4, 2025.

The incident, which escalated from a dispute over ownership, has also led to further violence and another death in the community of Kpotame, Sogakope.

According to reports, Prince recognised a motorbike at Ada beach that he believed had been stolen.

When he confronted the men in possession of the bike, a heated argument ensued.

What began as a verbal altercation quickly turned violent, with Prince reportedly being beaten and stabbed by the individuals.

“We were at home when someone called to tell us that Prince was involved in a fight at Ada. So, we started calling his number, but he wasn’t picking up. Later, we heard that someone had been stabbed at the location where Prince was involved in the fight. It was later revealed to us that Prince was the one who had been beaten and stabbed at the beach, and he died,” a close relative of Prince told YEN.com.gh.

Sogakope residents live in fear

The news of Prince’s death sent shockwaves through Kpotame, a community within Sogakope in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region.

In a swift and tragic turn of events, some youths from Kpotame, angered by Prince’s death, took matters into their own hands.

They attacked at least two individuals believed to be involved in the killing, using sticks and machetes, at a filling station, leading to one death.

Authorities have yet to release further details regarding arrests or ongoing investigations into both incidents.

The community remains on edge as residents grapple with the aftermath of these violent events.

Efforts to speak to the police on the matter have not yielded results at the time of filing this report.

Taxi driver murdered in Sogakope

In a related development, tragic incident involving the murder of a taxi driver and the subsequent theft of his vehicle has resulted in the arrest of one suspect, while police continue to search for three others involved.

The case began with a taxi ride from Prampram to Aflao, ending in a town near Dzodze, Ketu North, where the driver, Patrick Tetteh, was reportedly killed before his car was stolen.

According to a report from the Dzodze police, on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, around 10:00 pm, a police patrol team from the SWAT/National Highway Patrol, led by C/Inspr. James Saarah, intercepted a Toyota Vitz with registration number ‘GN 2586 22’ on the Tadzewu-Akatsi road at Lume.

During the routine check, the taxi driver and three other occupants, believed to be Nigerians, abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes.

The car was left behind.was then taken to the Dzodze police station for further investigation.

Fear grips residents of South Tongu

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported earlier that residents of South Tongu and surrounding communities in the Volta Region had been living in fear as violent killings reached alarming levels.

In July, three bodies were discovered within two weeks, with some linked to ritual activities and armed robbery, raising concerns over security.

The involvement of young men, particularly Okada riders, had intensified the anxiety, prompting calls for urgent intervention from local authorities.
