A tragic incident occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) 2025/2026 recruitment exercise, resulting in the death of six applicants and injuries to several others.
According to a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the stampede happened shortly before the commencement of the screening exercise at about 6:20 a.m. Preliminary investigations suggest that the tragedy was caused by an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols and forced their way through the gates ahead of the scheduled time.
The victims were among thousands of hopeful applicants who had gathered at the venue to participate in the highly competitive recruitment process.
“The unfortunate incident led to the death of six potential recruits and many others injured. The injured are currently receiving emergency medical care at the 37 Military Hospital,” the statement signed by Colonel Evelyn Ntiamoah Asamoah, Acting Director General of Public Relations, read.
The Ghana Armed Forces further assured the public that medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilize the injured, while arrangements are underway to officially notify the families of the deceased.
