Absa is proud to announce the upcoming solo exhibition of Gandor Collins, Absa L’Atelier 2022 Ambassador, taking place at Ghana’s vibrant Mix Design Hub.
Collins’ practice bridges the historical and the contemporary, drawing deeply from Ghana’s past to reflect on its evolving artistic future. His work speaks to identity, heritage, and imagination, offering audiences a compelling dialogue between history and the present moment.
This exhibition forms part of Absa’s powerful new series of gallery showcases spotlighting the Absa L’Atelier Ambassadors, rising stars in African contemporary art whose work captures the depth, complexity, and brilliance of the continent.
As part of their L’Atelier journey, each Ambassador is awarded a fully sponsored solo exhibition, a rare and valuable opportunity to professionally present their work in leading galleries across Africa. These exhibitions are a cornerstone of the Absa L’Atelier programme, now in its 39th year and one of the longest-running and most respected visual arts development platforms on the continent.
“At the heart of the Absa L’Atelier is the belief that every artist’s story matters,” says Dr Paul Bayliss, Absa Senior Specialist Art Curator. “Gandor Collins’ work embodies this belief, drawing inspiration from Ghana’s past to shape conversations about the continent’s future. We are honoured to support him in presenting his vision to the world.”
Speaking ahead of the exhibition, Gandor Collins shared “This platform has allowed me to bring together stories of Ghana’s history with the present energy of its people. My work is about preserving memory while imagining new futures. To showcase this journey in my home country, with the support of Absa and the L’Atelier, is both humbling and empowering.”
Mahmoud Brimah, Gallery Manager at the Mix Design Hub, added: “The Absa L’Atelier gallery collaboration signifies the realization of a shared vision in the creative synergy bursting through the continent, one that empowers artists, fosters meaningful dialogue, and connects communities. Hosting Gandor’s exhibition is a proud moment for us, as it reflects our mission to be a space where creativity and culture converge.”
Through this series, Absa reaffirms its belief in the power of African art, and its commitment to being a catalyst for creativity, culture, and progress. To real life and untold stories. Because Absa sees your story, and it inspires us, your story matters.
