Ghanaian gospel singer and police officer ACP Kofi Sarpong has courted attention on social media with his presence at the New Patriotic Party’s demonstration on September 23 against alleged police harassment and abuse of power.

The protest, dubbed ‘Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna’, began at Obra Spot in Accra. Several party officials, including Nana B and Salam Mustapha, trekked to the Jubilee House where they presented their petition to the presidency.

ACP Kofi Sarpong was among the dozen police officers deployed to maintain law and order during the demonstration.

The gospel singer has been a police officer for nearly two decades. In 2022, Kofi Sarpong was promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Protestors hail Kofi Sarpong as IGP

In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh, ACP Kofi Sarpong was spotted in his official police uniform and protective gear.

A group of protestors couldn’t hide their admiration for the celebrated singer when they saw him on official police duty.

A fan referenced a line from the police officer’s hit song Meto Ndwom and loudly hailed him for his strides in the gospel music industry.

Others began to hail ACP Kofi Sarpong as a future candidate to become Inspector General of Police.

During an interview last year, ACP Kofi Sarpong opened up about his ambition for the top role in the police service.

“When you get to COP, all the commissioners can be appointed as IGP. Right now, I have two more steps to get to that level: DCOP, then COP,” ACP Kofi Sarpong told KMJ.

ACP Kofi Sarpong shares grass-to-grace story

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that ACP Kofi Sarpong had opened up about his struggles growing up as a young student.

According to ACP Kofi Sarpong, life was hard for his family to the extent that he was often sacked from school because of his fees. At 13, he began to learn the trade and leverage it to reduce his mum’s burden in fending for him.
