Adisadel College will officially commission its ultra-modern STEM laboratories on October 11, 2025, marking a major advancement in the promotion of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education within Ghana’s secondary schools.
The initiative, started by the 1995 Year Group, was part of the old boys’ legacy project aimed at enhancing STEM learning at their alma mater. This latest effort builds upon the three-storey STEM laboratory complex constructed under the patronage of Osae Otwausom Nyampong VI.
The current phase of the project focused on completing and equipping six specialised laboratories to meet modern educational standards. These include robotics, engineering, and mathematics laboratories, each designed to promote practical, interdisciplinary learning and innovation among students. The remaining three laboratories are dedicated to physics, chemistry, and biology.

Project Lead, Dr. Paul Mensah, explained that the mathematics lab, in particular, has generated great interest due to its unique approach to applied learning. “Many people wonder what a maths lab looks like,” he said. “But in STEM education, subjects are interconnected. The maths lab will feature computers and tools that allow students to work on projects related to robotics and engineering. It’s all about integration and problem-solving.”
According to Dr. Mensah, the project team prioritised functionality, quality, and sustainability throughout the implementation process. The laboratories were completed in five carefully managed phases, overseen by a small but highly committed technical and management team.
The successful completion of the laboratories was made possible through the generous contributions of alumni sponsors, including:
-
Dr. Godfrey Gaisie (Class of 1965) – Sponsor of the Robotics and IT Lab
-
Mr. Ben Appah (Class of 1975) – Sponsor of the Engineering Lab
-
Mr. Christopher Hesse-Tetteh (Class of 1975) – Sponsor of the Mathematics Lab
Together, these contributions, amounting to over $135,000, provided the financial foundation for the project’s completion and furnishing.
Dr. Godfrey Gaisie, sponsor of the Robotics and IT Lab, highlighted the transformative potential of STEM education in shaping Ghana’s next generation of innovators.
“STEM education is designed to train students to be innovative, to solve problems, and to think critically,” he stated. “It brings together disciplines like physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and engineering — helping students see how they connect in real-world applications.”

Dr. Gaisie added that the Adisadel STEM initiative aligns closely with the government’s broader agenda for STEM advancement. “We are aligning with the government’s curriculum and goals,” he noted. “Our aim is to support national efforts by building a solid foundation for students at the secondary level.”
The commissioning ceremony will be attended by a distinguished gathering of education officials, alumni, and community leaders, including Osae Otwausom Nyampong VI, regional education directors, and heads of leading educational institutions. The event will also feature STEM demonstrations and student showcases, designed to highlight the innovative potential of the new laboratories.
In addition, pupils from selected basic schools in Cape Coast will be invited to participate in hands-on STEM activities as part of efforts to inspire early interest in science and technology.
“We decided to invite pre-secondary students to experience STEM education,” Dr. Mensah said. “When I visited other schools, I saw how introducing STEM early encouraged many girls to take up science. We want to inspire that same curiosity here in Cape Coast.”
The Adisadel College STEM project is expected to serve not only the school’s students but also the broader Cape Coast educational community, providing opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and experiential learning.
As the new laboratories open, Adisadel College reaffirms its position as a centre of academic excellence, committed to nurturing the next generation of innovators, scientists, and engineers for Ghana and beyond.
