Lawyer Nicholas Lenin Anane Agyei has sharply criticized Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for imposing bail conditions requiring his client, broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere, to produce two landed properties registered in his name.
Anane Agyei described the demand as fundamentally unfair and discriminatory against economically vulnerable citizens.
During an interview on Channel One’s Newsroom, Anane Agyei argued the condition contradicted bail principles, stating, “It is unreasonable to require an accused person to produce properties in his own name.
The OSP is essentially saying poor people cannot make bail.” He emphasized that Adom-Otchere had previously disclosed owning no landed property during OSP profiling.
The legal team contends the demand is illogical given Adom-Otchere’s documented lack of assets.
“For the OSP to insist on two properties in his name is tantamount to ensuring his detention,” Anane Agyei stated. He confirmed plans to challenge the conditions legally, vowing, “We will explore all avenues to secure Mr. Adom-Otchere’s freedom.”
