Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has sharply criticized the Mahama administration for imposing new fuel levies that have spiked pump prices, declaring the move a betrayal of ordinary Ghanaians.

Addressing the NPP National Delegates Conference on 19 July 2025, Afenyo-Markin asserted the policy has crushed household budgets barely months into the NDC government’s tenure.

He further condemned the recent Ablekuma West parliamentary re-run, alleging state-sponsored violence. “NDC-affiliated individuals disguised as taskforce members targeted our candidate and journalists,” Afenyo-Markin stated, calling the incident a democratic “blot” revealing the ruling party’s willingness to “trample democracy with violence.” His remarks amplified opposition claims that the NDC is undermining governance norms.

The Minority Leader framed these developments as exposing the “true face” of President Mahama’s administration. The accusations come amid rising public discontent over economic policies and fuel costs exceeding ¢15 per liter. The NPP conference, focused on party reforms, positions these critiques as foundational to its 2028 electoral strategy.
