The African Marketing Confederation (AMC) proudly celebrated the extraordinary achievements of two of its co-founders, Nigel Tattersall and Helen McIntee-Carlisle, who were recently awarded the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Honorary Fellowship.

The accolade was presented to Tattersall and McIntee-Carlisle during the AMC Conference, recognising their lasting impact on marketing development across Africa.

The CIM Honorary Fellowship is among the most prestigious accolades in the global marketing profession. Reserved for a select few, it honours individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, innovation, and commitment to advancing the practice of marketing.

Less than a dozen professionals across the world are awarded this recognition annually, making Tattersall and McIntee-Carlisle’s achievements particularly remarkable.

The CIM seeks to elevate the marketing profession, acknowledging leaders who excel in their craft and inspire wider communities of practitioners. Receiving this award signals that Tattersall and McIntee-Carlisle are both considered to be experts in the sector and contributed meaningfully to the growth of marketing as a discipline.

Tattersall and McIntee-Carlisle have been instrumental in advancing professional development, fostering collaboration among African marketers as well as setting high standards across the continent.

Their leadership has positioned African marketing on the global stage, ensuring the continent’s voices and perspectives shape the international conversation. By joining the ranks of past fellows like Kate Hamilton, Nigel and Helen affirm the global relevance of African marketing.

Dr Elaine van Wyk, Group Chief Marketing and Sales Officer at Uxi Private Education, commented on the significance of the award. “The CIM’s Honorary Fellowship is one of the highest honours in marketing. Nigel and Helen earned it through their outstanding contributions to advancing marketing across Africa,” she says.

Van Wyk’s remarks highlight not only Tattersall and McIntee-Carlisle’spersonal achievements but also the broader impact of their work on the African marketing community.

The CIM Honorary Fellowship has historically been awarded to a small and elite group of marketing leaders whose influence has transcended their immediate organisations and sectors. Tattersall and McIntee-Carlisle now join this distinguished group, a milestone that reflects both their professional excellence and the rising global stature of African marketing.

For South African marketers, this recognition is particularly meaningful, showing that locally nurtured talent can gain global acclaim. Nigel and Helen’s achievements highlight the value of ethical practice, strategic insight, and visionary leadership, reminding the industry that true excellence combines results with lasting influence.

The AMC Conference offered the perfect stage to honour this achievement, as peers and industry leaders recognised Tattersall and McIntee-Carlisle’s decades-long commitment to raising marketing standards, fostering professional growth, and inspiring the next generation of African marketers.

Their work has laid a foundation for the continued growth and influence of professionals across the continent.
