Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the former President of Ghana, has made an earnest appeal to the family of the late musical icon Daddy Lumba, requesting to be included in the burial preparations for the beloved artist.

The plea came during a heartfelt visit to the Fosu family at their residence on August 1, 2025, where he expressed his deep appreciation for the significant contributions the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, better known as Daddy Lumba, made towards his 2016 election victory.

In a moving address, Akufo-Addo paid tribute to Daddy Lumba, a key figure in Ghanaian music, stating that his support had been pivotal in shaping his political journey.

He emphasised that not only would it bring him great joy to assist in the burial arrangements, but it would also cause him profound sorrow to be excluded from such an important event.

“If history is written in some years to come, there is no way Lumba’s name will be omitted,” he declared passionately. “I came here to sympathise with you. I want you all to know that I am deeply grateful for what he did for me.”

The former president expressed his desire to contribute meaningfully to ensure that Daddy Lumba receives a dignified farewell, remarking,

“I will be pained if I am excluded from the burial preparation. I want you to know that I am also a human being, and I cherish the legacy he has left behind. He did something magnificent for me, and I am profoundly thankful for that. Because of the song he composed in my name, generations will forever sing it long after we are gone. Because of Daddy Lumba, my name will be etched in the annals of history.”

Akufo-Addo visits Daddy Lumba’s family

A visibly emotional Akufo-Addo struggled to hold back tears as he mingled with the grieving family during his visit to Lumba’s residence in East Legon, further highlighting the depth of their relationship.

Accompanying him were notable figures including former Chief of Staff Frema Osei Opare, former National Lottery Authority Director-General Sammy Awuku, and former Presidential Secretary Nana Asante Bediatuo.

Before addressing Lumba’s family, the former president was warmly greeted by several loyal members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the musician’s home, where he initially displayed a smile, appreciative of the warm reception.

The bond between Nana Akufo-Addo and Daddy Lumba dates back to 2008, when the artist created a campaign song titled “Nana is a Winner” to endorse Akufo-Addo’s presidential ambitions.
