Former Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged the family of late highlife legend Daddy Lumba (Charles Kwadwo Fosu) to include him in funeral plans, declaring: “I will be hurt if I’m not made part of the burial plans.”
During a condolence visit, Akufo-Addo credited Lumba’s campaign songs for cementing his political stature, calling the artist “one of Ghana’s biggest global icons.”
“Because of Lumba, my name is everywhere in this country,” he stated, revealing he honored the musician during his lifetime for contributions that “transcend generations.”
Akufo-Addo emphasized their symbiotic relationship: Lumba’s anthems fueled his electoral appeal, while his presidency amplified the artist’s reach. “I am ever ready to be part of any plan to give him a befitting burial,” he added, framing participation as mutual recognition.
The former president’s emotional appeal—delivered immediately after returning from abroad—underscores Lumba’s cross-societal impact. His visit follows tributes from musicians like Ofori Amponsah, who described Lumba as a “father figure.”
