Semenyo shifts attention to World Cup qualifiers
Beyond the social media frenzy, Semenyo and his colleagues are preparing for an important assignment.
According to Ghanafa.org, the team is set to leave for N’Djamena on Tuesday, September 2, ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Chad two days later.
Ghana demolished the same opposition 5-0 in Accra last March, with Semenyo on the scoresheet, and they will be eager to repeat that dominance away from home.
The forward’s club numbers are impressive, with two goals and an assist in three Premier League matches this season.
Yet his Black Stars record tells a different story. In 27 appearances, he has scored just three times, averaging a goal every nine games, according to Transfermarkt.
Still, his recent strike against Les Sao offers hope that he can carry his club sharpness into national duty.
After the Chad game, the four-time African champions will host Mali in Accra on September 8.
Wins in both encounters would give Ghana a commanding lead in Group I, leaving them on the brink of sealing qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
10 reasons why Semenyo is Ghana’s best player
In an earlier report, YEN.com.gh outlined ten strong arguments for why Antoine Semenyo stands out as Ghana’s top performer at the moment.
Although some may point to names like Mohammed Kudus or Thomas Partey, Semenyo’s numbers speak volumes.
His consistency against elite opposition is a major highlight, showcased by his brace against Liverpool and his relentless display against Tottenham Hotspur this season.
