Eight people, including two ministers of state and other security officials, were killed in a helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The group was headed to Obuasi for a security conference on tackling the scourge of illegal mining, also known as galamsey, when the crash occurred in the Sikaman forest.
Five civilians and three military officers died in the crash, including the Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
A state funeral was held to honour the dearly departed at the Black Star Square on Friday, August 15.
Appiah Stadium disrupts state funeral
Controversial Ghanaian political activist Appiah Stadium disrupted proceedings at the funeral when he appeared at the event.
Accompanied by his faithful companion Kwame Ahenfie, Appiah Stadium invaded the restricted space for dignitaries to exchange pleasantries with them, despite the solemn funeral proceedings still happening.
He approached a slate of dignitaries, including the Attorney General, Dominic Ayine, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and the Minister for Communications, Samuel Nartey George.
Appiah Stadium’s antics appeared to irritate the Health Minister, who seemingly scolded him for a few seconds.
The skilled Appiah Stadium eventually cracked a joke, forcing the Health Minister to laugh and diffuse the tension.
The video of Appiah Stadium and Mintah Akandoh is below.
