Apple on Tuesday officially unveiled the iPhone 17 series, introducing four new models,  the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The lineup brings longer-lasting batteries, more advanced camera systems, and slimmer designs, marking one of the company’s biggest upgrades in recent years.

The spotlight was on the iPhone 17, which introduces the Center Stage front camera, Apple’s most advanced selfie system to date. With an 18MP resolution, ultra-stabilized 4K HDR video, and AI-powered group framing, users can now take portrait or landscape selfies without rotating their devices. The camera also enables smoother video calls by keeping users stable and centered.

On the rear, Apple has equipped the iPhone 17 with a 48MP Fusion Main camera featuring optical-quality 2x Telephoto, and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide lens, capturing expansive scenes and detailed macro photography. Across the iPhone 17 series, Apple has implemented a dual-lens system, with varying megapixel offerings depending on the model.

Durability has also been enhanced with Ceramic Shield 2, which offers three times better scratch resistance than the previous generation and reduces glare for outdoor use. The new 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion technology delivers smoother scrolling and brighter visuals, peaking at 3000 nits for the best outdoor visibility yet.

“iPhone 17 is a big upgrade with powerful features that make iPhone even more useful in your day-to-day life, from the bigger and brighter ProMotion display with 3x better scratch resistance, to all-day battery life with faster charging, the A19 chip for powerful performance, a fantastic 48MP Dual Fusion camera system, and the innovative Center Stage front camera — our best front camera yet,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing.

The company also announced the iPhone 17 Air, a first-of-its-kind model that Apple is calling its “thinnest iPhone ever.” Designed with a slimmed-down profile, the Air model balances lightweight portability with premium features.

Pricing for the new lineup begins at $799 for the iPhone 17, $999 for the iPhone 17 Air, $1,099 for the iPhone 17 Pro, and $1,199 for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. All models start at 256GB of storage, doubling the entry-level option from last year, with a 512GB version also available. Customers can choose from black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white color finishes.

The entire series will ship with iOS 26, Apple’s latest operating system, launching September 15. iOS 26 introduces a fresh design with Liquid Glass visuals, Apple Intelligence powered by on-device AI, and practical new features including real-time translation in iMessages, FaceTime, and Phone, as well as image identification tools. Developers will also gain access to AI tools to create privacy-protected, intelligent apps that work even offline.

The product launch comes at a critical moment for Apple, as the company faces mounting competition from rivals pushing AI-driven software. At the same time, tariffs introduced under U.S. President Donald Trump are projected to cost Apple more than $1 billion this quarter, according to company estimates.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 17 series open on Friday, September 12, with in-store availability set for Friday, September 19.
