A gold shop in Mpohor, Western Region, became the target of a brazen armed robbery on August 16th, leaving the community reeling.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of terror as more than ten assailants fired indiscriminately into the air for nearly 30 minutes. Terrified residents scrambled for cover as the attack unfolded in broad daylight.

The robbers targeted Papa Nyame Gold Shop, escaping with an undisclosed quantity of gold and cash. During the chaotic heist, one individual was shot and urgently transported to the hospital for treatment. The identities of the perpetrators remain unknown, with police investigations actively underway.

This incident adds to a concerning pattern of gold-related robberies in the Western Region. While alarming, recent police actions offer some context. In April 2025, three suspects were arrested near Jukwa, close to Afransie, following a gold robbery involving GH¢199,000 worth of the precious metal.

Police recovered firearms and cash linked to the crime. Similarly, in July 2025, authorities thwarted another plot targeting a gold consignment valued at over GH¢1.3 million, arresting three suspects and safely rescuing the dealer.

The Western Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for the Mpohor robbery suspects. They assure the public that all necessary resources are being deployed to track down those responsible and ensure justice is served, urging anyone with information to come forward.
