The woman, Nana Afia Agyeiwaa, in a video, was seen unveiling the assorted food items she presented at Manhyia Palace for the four-day funeral ceremony.

The items included bags of rice, cartons of milk, and gallons of oil. Clad in black mourning cloth as tradition demands, Nana Afia Agyeiwaa stood still as an individual talked about her gesture.

Reports indicate that Nana Afia Agyeiwaa was recognised by the late Asantehemaa as the queenmother of spices and provisions.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, as the matriarch, was in charge of all women’s affairs in the Ashanti region.

When she was alive, the queen mothers of the market occasionally called on the Asantehemaa to stock the Manhyia Palace with food and seek her advice.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III died in August 2025 at the age of 98 years old. The news was confirmed on August 11 at an Asanteman Council meeting.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who was the king’s biological sister, was enstooled as the 14th Asantehemaa in 2017, succeeding her mother and predecessor, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who died on November 15, 2016, in her sleep, aged 109.

In the Asante hierarchy, the queenmother, second in authority only to the Asantehene, plays a crucial role in regulating the legitimacy of successors to the Golden Stool and ensuring adherence to customs and traditions.

Her influence extends to matters of succession, advising the Asantehene, and even having the power to depose him in certain circumstances.
