The mortal remains of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, were laid to rest at midnight on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
She was expected to be interred at the Asante Royal Mausoleum, located at Breman in Kumasi. Her burial follows a grand four-day funeral ceremony, dubbed Doteyie in Asante customs.

Ahead of the interment, images of her casket and final resting place have emerged online, inspiring awe among a section of social media.
Casket of late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom
The casket, as shown in a photo shared by a pro-Asante page on Facebook, MeYɛ Asanteni, is brown in colour with a wooden look. Its edges were adorned with silver-like trims.
Sitting in state at the durbar grounds (Dwabrem) at the Manhyia Palace, the casket was surrounded by many flowers and Asante flags.

The casket arrived at Dwabrem for the final funeral rites on the shoulders of some strong men, while the Asantehene Otumfuo followed in a solemn procession, holding a traditional gun.

At the end of the burial rites, the casket was carried away by a group of soldiers.

Later photos also showed the Breman Royal Mausoleum, the Asantehemaa’s final resting place, just like other Asante kings and queens, was ready to receive her.
The Baamu, as Asantes call the mausoleum, has been freshly painted and adorned with red and black to symbolise the state of mourning. Also, Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s large portraits have been placed at the entrance.

Asantehemaa Nana Ama Konadu III’s profile
Born Nana Ama Konadu in 1927 at the sacred Benyaade Shrine in Merdan, Kwadaso, the late Asantehemaa was the eldest sister of the current Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
She was enstooled as the 14th Asantehemaa on February 6, 2017, succeeding their biological mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who reigned from February 6, 1977, to November 15, 2016.
She passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 97, after an eight-year reign.

The images of the Asantehemaa’s casket have triggered mixed emotions on social media. While many were left admiring Asante culture, others were saddened by the passing of the queen.

Nana Akwasi Osei Tutu said:
“In my childhood days, we used to play at the outer court of this great edifice. Little did I know that it held great significance in the history of the Asante kingdom at that time. Even at that, you could feel some form of heaviness when you set foot in certain parts of the building. Now, as I have grown, things have become clear. Nana Hemaa nante yie.”

Freemasons throng Manhyia for Asantehemaa’s funeral
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that a delegation of Freemasons had joined Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for the funeral of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, on September 15, 2025.
The entourage, led by Most Worshipful Dr Nortey Kwashie Omaboe, consisted of the Grand Lodge of Ghana and the District Grand Lodge of England.
