The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Frank Amoakohene, has expressed concern over a stampede that occurred during the military screening exercise at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, which left five young people injured.

In a social media post, the Minister stated that he had been informed of the incident and had since directed that the affected individuals receive the best possible medical care and full support to ensure their speedy recovery.

“I have been informed of five (5) young people who sustained various injuries during the unfortunate stampede at the ongoing military screening exercise at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. I have since directed that they receive the best possible medical care and full support to ensure their speedy recovery,” he wrote.

Hon. Amoakohene further expressed regret over the incident, assuring that steps are being taken to ensure that future recruitment and screening exercises are conducted in a safe, orderly, and humane manner.

“We deeply regret this incident and remain committed to ensuring that all future recruitment and screening exercises are conducted in a safe, orderly, and humane manner. Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected individuals and their families,” he added.

The unfortunate development at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium follows a tragic incident at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra earlier on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, which claimed six lives and left several others injured during the Ghana Armed Forces 2025/2026 recruitment exercise.

According to the Ghana Armed Forces, the El-Wak stampede occurred at about 6:20 a.m., when a surge of applicants breached security protocols and forced their way into the venue ahead of the scheduled screening. The injured were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital, while arrangements are being made to notify the families of the deceased.

In a statement, the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that the death toll remains six, urging the public to disregard false reports suggesting higher numbers. Medical teams continue to provide care to those injured as investigations into both incidents continue.
