Former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential ambitions advanced on August 13 when party youth secured nomination forms for his New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer bid.

The race, set for January 31, 2026, positions Bawumia against challengers including ex-MP Kennedy Agyapong and former Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong.

Addressing supporters, Bawumia pledged youth-focused policies: “I’m bringing bold ideas centered on jobs and opportunities for Ghana’s future. Your efforts won’t be in vain.”

He vowed to reciprocate their support with concrete solutions but offered no specifics.

The move signals Bawumia’s early advantage in a party seeking revival after its 2024 election loss to the NDC.

Analysts note his digital-economy advocacy as a likely campaign pillar, though rivals Agyapong and ex-NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong could leverage grassroots networks.
