Coach Frimpong Manso

Ghana Premier League Champions Bibiani Goldstars, has parted ways with its Head Coach, Frimpong Manso with immediate effect, barely a season after he guided the club to their historic league triumph.

The decision came in the wake of Goldstars’ 2-0 defeat to Algerian giants, JS Kabylie in the first leg of the 2025/2026 CAF Champions League preliminary stage qualifiers, played over the weekend.

The loss had left the Ghanaian champions with a mountain to climb ahead of the decisive second leg in Algeria.

Mr. Samuel Kwagyire, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the club, who confirmed the development to the GNA, described it as a top-level management decision.

According to him, the choice to terminate Manso’s contract was agreed upon after a crunch meeting by the club’s hierarchy.

“Management believes this is the best step forward for the team at this crucial stage. The reasons will be communicated officially in due time,” the PRO said.

Manso’s exit comes as a surprise to many, having masterminded Goldstars’ stunning league triumph and maiden CAF Champions League qualification last season.

However, some supporters believed that the 2-0 defeat to JS Kabylie, coupled with the departure of some key experienced players, had intensified management’s concerns over the team’s overall strength and readiness to compete in the CAF Champions League and the domestic season.

Goldstars are expected to travel to Algeria for the decisive second leg on Friday, September 26, though it remained unclear who would take charge of the team.

Management is reportedly working on appointing an interim coach to lead the squad as they fight to overturn the two-goal deficit and keep their continental hopes alive.
