The senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, are threatening to boycott training as well as their game against Egypt due to unpaid bonuses.
The Queens are owed bonuses from their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in Morocco.
Joy Sports checks reveal each player is owed $9500 in bonuses after the tournament which ended in July.
The team had initially threatened to boycott the first leg of the 2026 WAFCON Qualifier against Egypt in Ismailia but went ahead to play the game following meetings with some leaders in camp.
The Black Queens received their per diems for the international break only after their game against the Cleopatras.
However, the team is now threatening to boycott any official training following their arrival in Ghana ahead of the second leg.
Reports indicate the team has refused not to train or undergo any physical sessions until their have been paid their bonuses.
The players are reportedly frustrated with the treatment they have received from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation as officials have remained silent.
The standoff threatens the team’s chances of being at the 2026 WAFCON which also serves as the qualifier for the 2027 Women’s World Cup to be staged in Brazil.
Ghana have a three-goal lead from their first leg encounter against Egypt with the second leg later for Tuesday, October 28, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
