A group of irate youth at Bomfa Adumasa in the Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti Region besieged the Konongo Police early this morning in demand for the release of two suspected armed robbers for lynching.

The residents had initially apprehended the two suspects and handed them over to the police, following a Monday night’s robbery which left six people injured.

They later returned to the station Wednesday morning demanding their release without any clear reason for their actions.

But police at the Konongo Divisional Command resisted the attempts by the angry youth who fiercely pushed for a reprisal on the suspects.

District Police Commander, Superintendent Teddy Brown, explained the police engaged and calmed the agitated youth, assuring them of thorough investigations and justice.

He added that the suspects remain in custody as the case has now been transferred to the Konongo Divisional Police Command for further investigation.

The robbery incident is said to have occurred at about a 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 20, when the armed men on a motorbike attacked some gold buyers in the community and fired shots sporadically as they attempted to escape.

The six persons who sustained varying degrees of injury from the stray bullets were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment
