The body of Charles Kojo Asomaning, a civilian employee of the Ghana Police Service Headquarters, Accra has been transferred from the Swedru Government Hospital to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy, after he was brutally butchered and killed in a violent chieftaincy clash in Agona Abodom, Central Region.

Asomaning, who was the biological uncle of the recognised and legitimate chief, as ruled by the Agona Abodom Traditional Council Nana Kwesi Asare (also known as Nana Segu), was allegedly butchered on Saturday, August 2, 2025, by hired thugs armed men loyal to rival claimant Nana Kwesi Gyan.

Eyewitnesses say the attackers, including hired Asafoatsemei from Weija in the Ga South Municipality, stormed a private residence where supporters of Nana Asare were holding a modest celebration following a favourable court ruling on Thursday 31st July 2025.

It has been gathered also that some people were paid to recruit these Asafoatsemei numbering about 20 from Weija to carry out the atatcks.

The ruling, delivered by the Judicial Committee of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council on July 31, 2025, nullified certain disputed nominations linked to the rival chief Kwesi Gyan faction and barred them from presenting or installing a new chief or Odzekurow in Agona Abodom.

What began as a peaceful gathering quickly descended into bloodshed, with machete-wielding assailants mainly hired thugs from Weija attacking guests, vandalising property, and leaving several people injured. Asomaning was slashed with a Cutlass and fatally wounded in the assault resulting in his death.

In a twist that has fuelled public anger, the alleged mastermind, Kwesi Gyan, was reportedly seen in church celebrating soon after the killing. Despite multiple calls for his arrest, police are yet to invite him for questioning.

Relatives of the deceased have accused certain political figures of shielding the suspect and are urging His Excellency the President John Mahama to intervene to ensure justice.

They have also condemned the arrest of several injured victims, including Nana Asare, who was detained at the James Town District Police Station in Accra, from Saturday 2nd August 2025 instead of being given immediate medical treatment after the assault on him.

Police say investigations are ongoing, but community members warn that further delays in justice could heighten tensions in the already volatile chieftaincy dispute in the Area..
