The High Court in Accra has put on hold the criminal trial of former National Service Authority (NSA) Executive Director Osei Assibey Antwi and his former deputy Gifty Oware-Mensah, after both failed to appear in court on Friday, October 17, 2025.

Mr. Assibey Antwi’s lawyer told the court that his client had been asked to report to police investigators in Kumasi, where he is currently assisting with ongoing investigations. The lawyer also explained that the defence team had not yet received the charge sheet detailing the specific allegations against him.

For Mrs. Oware-Mensah, her lawyers submitted a two-day medical report, indicating that she was unwell and unable to attend court proceedings. The court accepted the excuse and officially recorded her absence.

As a result, the presiding judge adjourned the case indefinitely, pending further notice from the court’s registry.

Mr. Assibey Antwi, who led the National Service Authority before it transitioned from the National Service Secretariat, is facing 14 charges, including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, and money laundering. Prosecutors claim that his actions led to the loss of more than GHS600 million through irregular procurement and questionable financial transactions.

His former deputy, Gifty Oware-Mensah, is also facing similar charges, including stealing, money laundering, and abuse of office, with prosecutors alleging she played a role in the misappropriation of funds meant for National Service projects.

The case has generated significant public interest, given the senior roles both individuals once held in the National Service Authority and the magnitude of the alleged financial losses.
