The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) has expressed profound sorrow following a deadly helicopter crash that claimed the lives of senior government officials and military personnel.

The incident occurred on August 6th during a critical national operation targeting illegal small-scale mining activities. CIMG extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, President John Mahama, the Government of Ghana, and the Ghana Armed Forces.

Among the deceased were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. Also killed were Alhaji Mohammad Muniru Limuna, Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Mr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party. Three Ghana Armed Forces members perished: Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo. The institute hailed the victims as heroic servants dedicated to national integrity and progress.

CIMG commended the security personnel and emergency responders who worked diligently to recover the remains and ensure dignified handling. The institute also urged journalists across all platforms to exercise ethical judgment, sensitivity, and circumspection in their coverage of the tragedy. Respectful reporting, it stressed, honours the memory of the departed.

Reflecting on the mission’s purpose, CIMG highlighted its focus on advancing responsible mining and environmental stewardship. The institute reaffirmed its own commitment to supporting initiatives promoting safety, transparency, and sustainability in public policy and national development. It pledged solidarity with the Ghanaian people and offered its expertise in communications to aid behavioural change efforts.

The statement concluded by calling the nation to honour the lives lost through collective action and renewed national pride. It expressed hope that this moment of grief would galvanize efforts towards building a safer, more united, and resilient Ghana. The institute prayed for divine comfort for the bereaved and for the souls of the departed to rest in peace.
