During an interview with Joy Prime, the renowned producer and politician thought back to somewhere in the early 2000s when John Agekum Kuffour had just been elected Ghana’s president.

According to Okraku Mantey, who was then a producer for Daasebre Dwamena, Daddy Lumba was billed to perform at a star-studded event by Akosua Puni.

The politician established that the event had the newly elected president and the former head of state, Jerry John Rawlings, in attendance. Other top personalities, including multi-millionaire Osei Kwame Despite, were present.

When it was time for Daddy Lumba to mount the stage, the Ankwanoma hitmaker vowed not to perform until he saw his wife, because she was his inspiration.

Okraku Mantey recounted that Dady Lumba took the event producer through hell, forcing Despite and Fada Dickson to step in and help transport his wife to the concert venue.

“When the wife came. He actually told them exactly where he wanted his wife to sit. There was already someone in that spot, but he didn’t care. They had to sack that person to make room for Daddy Lumba’s wife,” Okraku Mantey said.

The politician, during the interview, noted that Daddy Lumba’s wife’s presence fueled the highlife legend to deliver a show-stealing performance, overshadowing the other billed acts.

“The show he delivered that night made Daasebre and the rest look bad on the night,” Okraku Mantey added.

The Ankwanoma hitmaker was married to his second wife, whom he affectionately referred to as Odo Broni, when he suddenly died at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness.
