A gospel singer, Gina Asante, has ignited a big online conversation after questioning the legacy of prolific Highlife musician Daddy Lumba.
Daddy Lumba, known in private life as Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
His death was announced by his legal representative, Fati Ali Yallah, who issued an official statement representing his family.

The statement that Daddy Lumba had been receiving medical treatment at the hospital following a brief illness.
The death of the music legend has plunged Ghana into deep grief, with notable personalities across the nation, including President John Mahama, former President Nana Akufo-Addo, and former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, expressing their condolences.

Several key personalities within the entertainment and creative industries, including media personality and devoted fan Serwaa Amihere, fellow musicians Nana Acheampong, Amakye Dede, and numerous others, have also shared heartfelt tributes in his memory.
As many discuss the life and legacy of Daddy Lumba, Gina Asante has seemingly downplayed the deceased’s impact and legendary status.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Asante, also a presenter with Pent TV, where she hosts a musical programme, suggested that no one deserved to be called a legend if their craft disturbed a nation’s morality.
“Write profane songs and dance with half-naked women to disturb the morality of the nation, and they call you a legend!”

Before the controversial post, Gina Asante had wondered about the impact of secular musicians and questioned why some call them legends. She further asked her followers to indicate the impacts they knew.

Daddy Lumba fans blast Gina Asante
The posts by Gina Asante have triggered social media. At the time of this report, both posts had received over 1,800 comments. While she did not mention any names, many of those reacting connected the posts to Daddy Lumba and blasted her for trying to belittle Lumba’s legacy.

Daddy Lumba’s family speaks about his wife
Still on Daddy Lumba, YEN.com.gh reported that a video of the Highlife legend’s brother reacting to issues that had arisen in the wake of his demise had gone viral.
He explained that Lumba’s wife and family followed due process in relaying the information of Daddy Lumba’s passing to his family.
Social media users who took to the comments section of the video shared varied opinions on the issue.
