The late Daddy Lumba to be honoured in September
Maame Efua Houadjeto shared her sadness at the unexpected passing of Daddy Lumba, stating that he was to be a prominent feature in an event commemorating highlife music, which marks its centennial this year, during a visit to his residence.
“The Ghana Tourism Authority, operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, had ambitious plans for a grand celebration, and Daddy Lumba was a major star we intended to spotlight at the Highlife at 100 event. Maame Efua Efua Houadjeto further emphasised that Daddy Lumba‘s contributions to the Ghanaian music scene are monumental and should not be overlooked.
She assured that the GTA is dedicated to honouring his legacy alongside other noteworthy figures who have influenced the nation’s music and cultural identity over the years.
Touching upon the political landscape and its relation to the creative arts, Maame Efua Houadjeto, while steering clear of overt political discourse, noted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has consistently recognised and supported artists across various fields.
“I want to remain neutral, but it’s important to mention that the NDC has a longstanding relationship with the arts. They have always valued the work of artistes, filmmakers, performers, and musicians within our culture,” she stated.
In addition, she confirmed that the 2025 Ghana Tourism Awards will feature a special tribute segment dedicated to the legacy of Daddy Lumba and other veterans of the entertainment industry.
“In September, the GTA will be hosting our Tourism Awards, where we will honour Daddy Lumba alongside several other legendary figures. Their contributions to our culture and industry deserve this recognition,” she added.

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made a heartfelt appeal to the Fosu family, the bereaved relatives of Daddy Lumba, requesting to be involved in the burial preparations for the revered musician.
This sincere invitation was made during his visit to their home on August 1, 2025. Akufo-Addo expressed his deep admiration for the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely recognised as Daddy Lumba, especially for the artist’s significant impact on his 2016 election campaign.
“Daddy Lumba was not just a cultural icon; his support was instrumental in shaping my political journey. It would bring me immense joy to contribute to the burial arrangements, and it would deeply sadden me to be excluded from such a profound event,” he conveyed, reflecting on the artist’s enduring legacy in both the music and political realms of Ghana.
