Legendary Ghanaian highlife musician Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known by his stage name Daddy Lumba, was reported dead in the early hours of July 26, 2025.

He died at the Bank Hospital, Accra, after suffering from a brief illness.

The veteran artiste, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest to ever grace the music scene, passed away unexpectedly at age 60, leaving many Ghanaians emotional.

Daddy Lumba, who had contributed immensely to the highlife genre for decades, had recently launched his radio station in September 2022, aiming to give back to the music industry as a veteran. His last known public appearance was on the station he founded, DLFM.

An emotional video from that final appearance has gone viral, sparking mixed reactions online. In the clip, many viewers believe his words and tone suggested he may have sensed his time was near.

Speaking on-air at the Accra-based station, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to his staff at DLFM, commending their efforts in pushing the station forward.

“I am proud of you, you have made Ghanaians notice the uniqueness of DLFM going forward, maybe henceforth I won’t be coming here again, so in case you don’t see me again, makra mo,” he said.

“Makra mo” is a Twi phrase often used as a farewell, similar to saying goodbye. The coincidental timing of his parting words has left many believing that the “Akwakwanoma” hitmaker might have had an intuition about his passing.
