The initiative was first declared on November 1, 2014, by the Government of Ghana in response to the 2014 Ghanaian cholera outbreak.

Ghana’s president has relaunched the initiative with a renewed effort to rally all stakeholders to rid the country of filth.

Parliament propose tax increment to fund waste management

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Parliament’s Sanitation Committee has suggested a hike in the 10-pesewa sanitation levy to 50 pesewas.

John Oti Bless, the chairman of the Sanitation and Water Resources Committee of Parliament, moved in favour of a hike in the sanitation levy.

Bless argued that the lack of a dedicated funding stream is hurting waste management. He told the press that the tax increase could help recruit manpower for the waste management sector.
