The Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church, Ghana, in collaboration with the Christian Council of Ghana, has extended its deepest condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the government, parliament, bereaved families, and all Ghanaians, following the tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday, 6 August.
In an official message addressed to the office of the President on Thursday, August 7, the Church said it was “grief-stricken” by the loss of eight gallant public servants who “died in the line of their official duties.” The victims included two cabinet ministers and senior officials of the Ghana Armed Forces.
“We share our grief-stricken pain with the government of Ghana and families of the deceased for the loss of Hon. Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Hon. Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Dr Samuel Sarpong, Mr Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah,” the Church said.
According to the statement, “Their sudden departure has left a deep void in the hearts and space of their families, institutions and all Ghanaians who cherished their stewardship, leadership and sacrifices.”
The EP Church and the Christian Council described the fallen officers as “distinguished gallant icons” and called on all Ghanaians to honour their memory by renewing their commitment to the nation.
“The best tribute we need to offer in memory of their dedicated services is to demonstrate our unwavering loyalty to building a buoyant, prosperous, just and peaceful Ghanaian economy,” the Church urged.
The message concluded with a prayer: “May the Lord, in His mercy, comfort all who mourn, comfort in our resolve with the spirit of hope, and grant our departed compatriots eternal rest in His peace.”
