The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, through its Directorate of Peacekeeping and Regional Security (DPKRS) and the Peace Support Operations Division (PSOD), successfully held the Third Annual Training on Operational-Level Logistics for Peace Support Operations (PSO) from 3 to 7 November 2025 in Lagos, Nigeria.
This specialized training aimed to bolster the capabilities of personnel involved in ECOWAS PSOs, focusing on critical areas such as deployment planning, mission sustainment, and liquidation procedures. The goal: to ensure more efficient and effective logistics management across all phases of peacekeeping missions.
The opening ceremony was led by Mr. Bekaye Coulibaly, Head of the Civilian Component and Representative of the Director of Peacekeeping and Regional Security. Distinguished guests included Major General Adewale Collins Adetoba, Commandant of the Nigeria College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM), and Brigadier General (Rtd.) Hassan Lai, former Chief of Staff of the ECOWAS Standby Force, served as a key resource person.
Participants represented a diverse mix from ECOWAS Member States, encompassing military, police, and civilian components of peace operations. The ECOWAS Logistics Depot Commandant and Deputy Commandant also joined the exercise, alongside Commission staff such as Dr. Danjuma Aku, Programme Officer for Rostering and Training, and Mr. Baba Midjida Ligbi, Programme Officer for Logistics.
This annual initiative underscores ECOWAS’ ongoing commitment to strengthening the operational readiness of its Standby Force and enhancing regional crisis response capabilities.
