The Accra Circuit Court has convicted eight men for their roles in violent disturbances that disrupted the Ablekuma North re-run election.
The men, Mohammed Abubakari, Tijani Mahmudu, Prince Dzakpasu, Anas Mohammed, Mohammed Hamda, Darko Otibu Samuel, Musah Muntari, and Ali Saeed, also known as Bomba, were each fined 500 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢6,000. In default, they will serve 24 months in prison.
The sentencing, delivered by His Honour Isaac Addo on Friday, August 29, 2025, followed the accused persons’ decision to plead guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit assault and three counts of assault under Sections 23(1) and 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred at the Methodist Church Polling Station during the re-run. The victims of the attack included Hawa Mavis Koomson, a former Minister of State and ex-MP for Awutu Senya East; Majeed Mohammed Saana, a trader; and Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei, Deputy Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The court heard that while the three were monitoring proceedings, the accused launched an unprovoked assault. Mrs. Koomson and Mr. Saana were the first to be attacked before the group turned on Mr. Kwei.
The case, which opened on Monday, August 25, was expedited after all eight admitted their involvement in the violence, leading to their swift conviction and sentencing.
