Bolgatanga Technical University has secured a €100,000 European Union grant to launch a pioneering digital skills initiative aimed at boosting graduate employability.
The 30-month project, backed by the UN Capital Development Fund under the EU-Ghana Pact for Skills, will establish an Integrated Digital Skills and Employability Hub on campus.
Starting this year, the hub will train students in high-demand fields like artificial intelligence, data analytics, and cybersecurity. Project Lead Alexis Adugdaa Ayamdor emphasized industry collaboration as central to the plan.
“We’re reactivating advisory committees and signing new partnership agreements,” he told stakeholders at a validation meeting. These steps will embed industry needs into curricula while expanding internships and mentorship opportunities.
But how will it work? Beyond infrastructure upgrades, the program includes entrepreneurship bootcamps, job-readiness workshops, and graduate tracking systems. Modular courses allow flexible skill-building while peer counseling supports student transitions.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa hailed the investment. “This isn’t just about textbooks,” he noted. “It’s hands-on preparation for Ghana’s digital economy.” With youth unemployment lingering near 12%, the university bets its graduates will now outpace competitors.
That’s not all. The project team will host regular stakeholder forums to keep industry voices at the table. If successful, this model could inspire similar technical schools across West Africa.
