In Ghana today, digital media has become more than just a tool for social interaction, it is a dominant source of news, a platform for event coverage, and a space where influencers, podcasters, vloggers, and bloggers shape public conversations.
From lifestyle stories to breaking news, the digital space has changed the way Ghanaians consume information. Leading the charge in this industry are some of the country’s most recognized platforms, including AmeyawDebrah.com founded by one of the pioneers, Ameyaw Debrah, Nkonkonsa.com by Eugene Osafo-Nkansah, Zionfelix.com, Sammy Kay Media, GH Hyper, and GH Kwaku, among many others.
But the path to embracing this space was not easy for everyone. Eugene Osafo-Nkansah, now President of the New Media Association of Ghana, admits that he once viewed social media with Skepticism.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with Kwame Dadzie, the popular Ghanaian journalist and celebrity blogger revealed that he initially associated the digital revolution with danger and even evil.
“Let me say on record that I was one of the people that thought that social media was part of the anti-Christ. I didn’t like it at all. I thought that it was exposing us too much. I didn’t know that there was a business side to it,” he confessed.
His turning point came through the encouragement of Ameyaw Debrah, whose own success story had already begun to inspire many in the digital media landscape. Eugene further recalled how Ameyaw Debrah advised him to explore digital platforms in addition to his work in newspapers and radio.

That simple push opened his eyes to new opportunities, and today, Eugene runs the popular entertainment news portal Nkonkonsa.com.

Beyond running his site, Eugene now leads the New Media Association of Ghana, a body formed to unite bloggers, vloggers, podcasters, and online content creators. The association advocates for digital-media rights, engages policymakers, and organizes training programmes for its members on areas such as ethics in online journalism, monetisation strategies, social-media growth, and cybersecurity.
What started as skepticism has turned into leadership for Eugene. Thanks to a shift in mindset influenced by pioneers like Ameyaw Debrah, he now champions the very space he once distrusted one that continues to grow as a powerful pillar of Ghana’s media landscape.
