Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has suspended production of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited’s Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix and mandated a full market recall after uncovering critical manufacturing lapses posing public health risks.
An inspection revealed poorly maintained equipment and inadequate monitoring systems compromised product integrity, causing sealing failures in canned items and select pouches (380g/1.05kg), leading to contamination, bloating, and visible mold.
The FDA noted this marks Nutrifoods’ second violation, having been barred from manufacturing the product in January 2025.
The Authority has launched an internal probe into potential regulatory oversights, vowing to address any failures “swiftly.” Consumers, retailers, and wholesalers were urged to immediately discontinue distribution or consumption of affected batches.
Nutrifoods confirmed a voluntary recall following FDA and National Security alerts about bloating incidents in pouches and cans (210g/400g).
The company directed customers to return products to its Tema office or authorized distributors for replacements, providing contact details (050 538 4429 or [email protected]). Nutrifoods apologized for the inconvenience while reaffirming commitment to national safety standards.
