
The final funeral rites for the late, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru will take place today, Sunday, August 24, in Damongo.
The ceremony will be held at the Astro Turf Park from 9:00 am, according to an announcement issued by the King and Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Area, Yagbonwura Bi-kunuto Jewu Soale I, on behalf of the Gonja Traditional Council.
Alhaji Muniru, who was also known by his traditional title, Sandape-Wura Buwulonso I, lost his life in the Wednesday, 6 August helicopter crash, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. He was among eight people who died in the tragic accident.
The aircraft, carrying senior government officials, was travelling to Obuasi when it crashed. Those on board included the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah; the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; NDC Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong; and former parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye.
The flight crew, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah also perished.
Today’s funeral is expected to attract high-profile personalities, including government officials, traditional leaders, political figures, diplomats and a large number of mourners from across the country, who will converge on Damongo, the capital of the Savannah Region, to pay their final respects.
