President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning in honour of the late former First Lady of Ghana, H.E. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, after a short illness.
In a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the period of mourning will run from Friday, October 24 to Sunday, October 26, 2025.
During this period, all national flags will fly at half-mast across the country — including at public institutions, diplomatic missions, and government installations — in remembrance of the late former First Lady’s contributions to Ghana’s development.
According to the statement, the national mourning is being observed “in honour of her memory and in recognition of her distinguished service to our nation.”
“The Government extends its deepest condolences to the family, her children, and all who mourn this irreplaceable loss,” the statement added.
Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings was celebrated for her dedication to women’s empowerment, child welfare, and social development, particularly through her leadership of the 31st December Women’s Movement, which she founded during her tenure as First Lady.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1982 to 2001. She was a prominent advocate for gender equality and community development, leaving a lasting mark on the country’s social and political landscape.
