Renowned music producer and artist manager, Kwesi Ernest, has spoken out about the ongoing controversy over the identity of the late Highlife musician Daddy Lumba’s rightful wife.

He stated clearly that the only spouse he knew during his time working with the legend was Priscilla Ofori, who is commonly known as Odo Broni.

In an interview on Power FM, the CEO of Media Excel Productions shared that during his 17 years of working closely with Daddy Lumba, the musician always introduced Odo Broni as his wife. He mentioned that she managed the home whenever he visited.

“For me, Kwesi sitting here today, in the last 17 years I worked with Daddy Lumba, the only person I have seen, known, and who has been introduced to me as his wife is Odo Broni. She’s the one I go and meet in his house morning, afternoon, and evening. She’s the one who serves me water and food. She’s the wife I know, and she has children with him,” he said.

Kwesi Ernest emphasized that he would not discredit or deny Odo Broni now that disputes have come up about who the late musician’s true wife is. He asserted that those who question his account can “dive into the Korle River or lagoon.”

The veteran music executive also urged Ghanaians, especially social media critics, to refrain from attacking Odo Broni. He asked the public to “spare the lady” and allow her to grieve in peace. “Whether you see her as a wife or girlfriend, she should be spared the bashing and left alone.

“Would people be doing what they are doing now if Lumba was alive?” he questioned.

Kwesi Ernest also criticized Evangelist Papa Shee, a known associate of Daddy Lumba, for publicly speaking against Odo Broni. He accused Papa Shee of hypocrisy, saying it was inconsistent for someone who claimed to be close to the late musician to now suggest that Odo Broni’s children with Lumba were born out of wedlock.

Kwesi Ernest’s comments come amid a growing legal battle between Akosua Serwaa, who many recognize as Daddy Lumba’s first wife, Priscilla Ofori (Odo Broni), the second wife, and Kofi Owusu Fosu, the Abusuapanyin (head of family) of the late musician.

According to court documents, Akosua Serwaa has filed a case seeking a declaration that she is the only surviving spouse and thus the sole person entitled to perform widowhood rites for the late musician. She is also asking the court to stop Odo Broni from publicly presenting herself as Daddy Lumba’s widow or taking part in any funeral activities meant for the legal wife.

Akosua Serwaa maintains that her marriage to Daddy Lumba was still valid and legally binding when he passed away on July 26, 2025, and that neither she nor her children were consulted before the family announced plans for the final funeral rites. She claims they only learned of the December 6, 2025 funeral date at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi through social media.

In her statement, Akosua alleges that after Lumba’s death, Odo Broni suddenly appeared, claiming to have been married to the late musician and to have had children with him. She further asserts that the family head, Kofi Owusu Fosu, has shown his intent to let Odo Broni perform widowhood rites—a move she calls unlawful.

Akosua insists that unless the court intervenes, she will be unfairly denied her rightful position as Daddy Lumba’s legitimate widow. A Divided Legacy Ahead of Final Funeral Rites The controversy has sparked intense debate among fans and industry members, with many expressing disappointment that such disputes have arisen before the funeral of one of Ghana’s most celebrated highlife icons.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 26, 2025, after decades of influencing Ghanaian highlife with hits like Aben Wo Ha, Yentie Obiaa, and Sika Asem. His contribution to the music industry remains unmatched, but his death is now overshadowed by the legal and emotional struggle between his family and the two women both claiming to be his wives.

As preparations continue for his December 6 final funeral rites, it remains to be seen how the court will decide and how the outcome will affect the celebration of the life and legacy of this legendary musician.
