Fifteen cocoa farmers from the Ashanti Region had their first chance to see how Nestlé’s Tema factory operates, watching their raw cocoa beans being transformed into popular products such as Milo.

This groundbreaking initiative forms part of Nestlé’s Creating Shared Value approach, which seeks to empower farmers while ensuring a sustainable cocoa supply for its operations.

Speaking at the cocoa farmers’ factory tour in Tema, Deborah Kwablah, Nestlé Ghana’s Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager, stated that the initiative demonstrates the company’s dedication to strengthening relationships with farmers.

“Today, Nestlé Ghana decided to bring representatives, about 15 farmers, to our factory in Tema. It’s important because these cocoa farmers produce cocoa, and we support them through agronomic practices so that they can achieve better yields,” she said.

Nestlé Ghana has supported cocoa-growing communities by improving social amenities, including building schools, toilets, and providing clean water. This year, the company completed 15 boreholes and five schools, with more projects planned.

Mr. Anthony Ofosu, a cocoa farmer from Adanfonsukitua in the Ashanti Region, expressed gratitude for the experience.

“Since I began cocoa farming, I had never set foot in the factory until today. From what I have seen, I am deeply impressed, and when I return home, I will share my experience with my community so they too can be inspired by the contribution we make to the nation,” he said.

Nestlé Ghana plans to make the factory visits an annual event to help farmers feel more connected and valued in their role within the value chain.
