The Ga Manste, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has moved to stop an impending celebration of Igbo culture in Accra on September 21, 2025.
The Igbo community in Ghana, led by HRM Eze Dr Ambassador Chwukudi Jude Ihenetu, was supposed to celebrate what they term as Igbo Day in Ghana/New Yam Festival.

Invitations and videos about the event circulated online indicated that the festival was to be held at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park under the theme: “Sustaining the culture and traditions of Nidgbo in the diaspora.”
Ahead of the celebration on Sunday, the Ga Manste has petitioned the Ghana Police Service to halt the festival.
In a letter to the Greater Accra Regional Police, the Ga Mantse stated that allowing the festival to proceed could lead to chaos and disturbance of public peace in the Ga State.
Referring to a July 9 directive for Eze Ihenetu to desist from engaging in any traditional and cultural activities under the guise of importing Igbo culture into the Ga State, the letter requested the police’s help to put the festival on hold.

Igbo King embarrassed at Asantehemaa’s funeral
The setback to the Igbo festival would be the second embarrassing situation the Igbo King has faced in the past few days.
It will be recalled that Eze Ihenetu was stopped from greeting Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Asantehemaa’s funeral on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
In a viral TikTok video, Otumfuo’s linguist was spotted blocking him as he attempted to greet the Asante king as others had done.
Following the video, social media users expressed support for the linguist’s move, given how many disapprove of the self-styled leader.
