It was a beautiful display of Igbo culture and tradition when the former Liberian President George Oppong Weah visited the Igbo King in Ghana, Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, at his palace in Accra.

A video, which has since gone viral and was posted on the page of @ezeigbo.ghana.tv, showed Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu in his throne as the former president sat right next to him.

In accordance with Igbo custom, an elder at the palace of Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu welcomed George Oppong Weah.

Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu also expressed delight to receive George Weah as his guest, as he then prayed for him and presented him with kola to send back home.

In a show of appreciation, George Oppong, who was all smiles, expressed delight over his decision to visit the Igbo King

He then went on to perform a rite at the palace, as proof that he values and respects Igbo culture.

His act pleased Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu and his elders at the palace, who, amidst smiles, were seen applauding the 1995 Ballon d’Or winner.

Igbo King speaks on the Asantehemaa funeral

The Igbo King in Ghana has meanwhile gone public on the incident that ensued during his appearance at the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s final funeral rites at the Manhyia Palace.

Addressing the media on Saturday, September 20, 2025, the Igbo King in Ghana dismissed claims that he was refused the chance to greet or shake hands with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the solemn ceremony in Kumasi.

Rather, he stated that he was applauded at the event for his show of humility and respect, and for promoting Igbo culture during his past encounters with various monarchs in Ghana.

Ga Mantse halts Igbo King’s festival celebrations

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that the plans by the Igbo King in Ghana to celebrate the Yam Festival with his people in Accra on September 21, 2025, had been suspended.

This comes after Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II warned that the festival celebration could pose security risks in the capital city.

The Ga Mantse then called on the police to stop the Igbo King, Eze Chukwudi Ihenetu, from holding the festival celebrations in Accra.
