YEN.com.gh understands that a media outlet made a report on the school’s dire need for better infrastructure from the government.

The report showcased overcrowded classrooms, poor facilities, and deteriorating structures that have long affected the school.

Their report stirred reactions from Ghanaians who questioned the function of the GES agency concerning schools with poor facilities like Vakpo.

As the report trended online, source confirm that the headmaster was summoned to the GES Regional Office in Ho on Thursday, Augues 14, 2025.

It was reported that the headmaster was told to tender immediately, a written statement as to the reason for inviting the media outlet to the school’s premises.

The source alleged that the headmaster had done as requested, but awaits response from the GES.

GES releases circular on media engagement

YEN.com.gh also understands that some hours later, the Regional Directorate shared out a circular, infoming all municipal and district directors, and heads of educational institutions.

The circular included strict restriction regarding engaging with media outlets and the press when it comes to disclosing official information.

The circular was signed by Francis Yaw Agbemadi, Regional Director of GES in Volta.

He approved the restriction of media engagement with staff on educational projects, policies, or any kind of interventions without getting a go ahead from the Director-General or an authorized representative.

The directive also cautioned that no official documents or correspondence should be shared with individuals, companies, or media organizations unless explicitly approved by the Director-General.

This policy aims to maintain the credibility of the Ghana Education Service (GES), ensure uniformity in information dissemination, and protect the Service’s public reputation.

St Monica’s SHS rejects taxi arrivals

YEN.com.gh had earlier reported that a video of St Louis SHS students arriving at school in taxis has trended online, triggering reactions from Ghanaians.

Students who came in their parents’ or other private cars were given unhindered access to the school, while those who came in taxis were denied entry.

The decision left some students stranded outside the school gate for hours, with many forced to alight at the gate and carry their heavy belongings, including trunks full of provisions and books, as well as their school outfits, into the school compound.

Netizens who saw the video of the students arriving in taxis being denied entry were angry and criticised the school in the comments section. Others also shared their experiences.
