Ghana has signed a visa waiver agreement with Antigua and Barbuda on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations General Assembly.
The agreement, which was signed by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, expressed gratitude to her counterpart, H.E. E.P. Chet Greene, Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Barbuda Affairs, for his role in making the deal possible.

The member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency in the Volta region, since 2013, explained that this new agreement marked the 10th visa waiver agreement secured for Ghanaians since he assumed office.
According to the Minister, the Mahama-led administration has made plans to enhance the value of the Ghanaian passport, strengthening the country’s image internationally, and improving travel opportunities for citizens.

He added that such agreements are key to boosting trade, tourism, and cultural ties, particularly in this case by deepening connections with the Caribbean.

US introduces $250 integrity fees for Ghanaian travellers
As part of a new regulation implemented by the Trump administration, Ghanaians and other individuals who intend to enter the US on non-immigrant visas will soon be required to pay an extra $250.
The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” includes the new visa integrity cost.
According to CNBC, the legislation was passed into law on July 4, 2025, and it will go into force from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025, which is the US fiscal year of 2025. Section 10007 of the Act states:
“In addition to any other fee authorised by law, the Secretary of Homeland Security shall require the payment of a fee, equal to the amount specified in this subsection, by any alien issued a nonimmigrant visa at the time of such issuance.”
US Embassy responds to Ablakwa’s viral post
