The widow of former Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, made a touching disclosure about the final conversation she had with her husband before the Ghana Air Force helicopter crashed at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Mrs. Ekyaa Sarpong, speaking from her residence in Kumasi during an interview with UTV, was overcome with sorrow as she shed light on the conversation.
She disclosed that Dr. Sarpong, who was in Accra, called her on Wednesday morning of August 6, 2025, to inform her that he and others would be attending an event at Obuasi but would return home on Friday, August 8, 2025.

Clad in mourning cloth, the widow said she bid her husband a safe trip, only to be informed at noon that he had perished in a helicopter crash.
“I heard about the news at 12 noon. He was in Accra, and I was in Kumasi. He called that morning to let me know that he would be travelling to Obuasi and that he would be home on Friday. He was calling to inform me of his travel. I wished him a safe trip, and that was it. I did not hear from him again and was told that my husband had died. That was it.”
The grieving widow added that they had been married for 38 years and both hailed from the town of Juaben in the Ashanti Region.

Eyewitness gives account of helicopter crash
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that an eyewitness shared his account of what he saw moments before the Ghana Air Force helicopter crashed, killing eight people, including Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah.
In an interview, he said the helicopter was flying very low in foggy weather. He later described the scene at the crash site after he and other individuals rushed there.
