The Caskets Containing The Remains Of The Deceased

The mortal remains of eight people killed in Ghana’s military helicopter crash arrived in Accra today, met with full state honors.

A somber reception ceremony took place at Burma Camp, where the flag-draped caskets were received by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and senior government officials. The bodies were then transported to a mortuary for storage ahead of funeral arrangements.

President John Mahama’s government has declared three days of national mourning starting Thursday, August 7, 2025. Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed flags will fly at half-mast nationwide until further notice. Chief of Staff Debrah, addressing the media at the Presidency, formally announced the deaths and extended condolences on behalf of the President and government to the families of the deceased.

The victims included high-ranking officials and military personnel en route to a national event in Obuasi, Ashanti Region. Among the deceased are Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, MP and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, NDC National Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, and Mr. Samuel Aboagye. The military deployed full ceremonial honors for their fallen comrades at the Accra reception.
