The 2025 Ghana Insurance Awards honored 16 companies and six individuals for driving innovation and excellence in the sector, with Enterprise Insurance clinching the Hall of Fame award and Starlife Assurance named Life Insurance Company of the Year.

Deputy Commissioner of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Bernard Ohemeng-Baah, emphasized insurance’s role as a “trampoline” for economic resilience during his keynote, urging industry players to overhaul business models for Ghana’s 24-hour economy.

He praised digital adoption noting mobile money’s role in micro-insurance but warned of urgent cyber resilience needs following recent global breaches.

Notable winners included SIC Insurance (General Insurance Company of the Year), Acacia Health Insurance (Private Health Leader), and Vanguard Assurance, which received the Major Loss Award for paying an GH¢8 million claim.

Individual accolades featured a Duffuor family milestone: Dr. Kwabena Duffuor of Star Assurance secured the Lifetime Achievement Award, while his daughter Kakra Duffuor-Nyarko, Starlife CEO, won Life Insurance CEO of the Year. Product innovation awards went to Imperial General Assurance (general insurance) and Hollard Life (MSME-focused “Asomdwee” policy).

Richard Abbey Jr., CEO of organizer Xodus Communications, highlighted the awards’ tangible impact, citing new products like Equity Health’s “Daakye Apomuden Plan” as proof of competitive innovation.

He countered perceptions of claims non-payment, noting NIC monitoring and Vanguard’s recognition as evidence of improved trust. The event underscored technology’s role in expanding access while reinforcing the sector’s partnership in national growth.
