Ghana International School (GIS), one of the nation’s most esteemed educational institutions, marked its 70th anniversary with a grand Platinum Jubilee celebration that showcased the school’s legacy of academic distinction, cultural inclusivity, and international vision.

Held under the theme “Honour the Past, Celebrate the Present, Embrace the Future,” the ceremony reflected on the school’s remarkable journey from its establishment in 1955—originally as the Gold Coast International School—into a globally recognized institution shaping generations of leaders.

The event drew an impressive gathering of dignitaries, alumni, clergy, and members of the wider community. Among the notable attendees were Ghana’s Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, who lauded GIS for its trailblazing role in private international education. “GIS has consistently set the standard in academic innovation and quality, preparing young people for the global stage,” he said.

Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and Apostle General Sam Korankye Ankrah were also present, lending their voices to the celebration of the school’s impact over the decades.

In her address, Dr. Mary Ashun, Principal of GIS, paid tribute to the visionaries who laid the school’s foundation. “This anniversary is not just a celebration of longevity, but a tribute to the educational ambition and international vision of our founders. GIS stands today as a beacon of world-class education on the African continent,” she remarked.

The festivities included the cutting of a ceremonial cake, the unveiling of GIS’s first-ever commemorative cloth, and the launch of a beautifully designed coffee-table book chronicling the school’s seven decades of growth and achievement.

The Platinum Jubilee was more than a milestone—it was a powerful reminder of the school’s enduring mission to nurture global citizens and a reaffirmation of its commitment to inspire generations to come.
