NPP members are raising alarms over the continued police detention of social media activist Sir Obama Pokuase despite meeting all bail conditions, suggesting it’s retaliation for his criticism of Ghana’s Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The activist, affiliated with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), was arrested by national security operatives at his residence in what witnesses called a “Rambo-style” operation. Though granted bail by the court with three sureties, Pokuase remains in custody weeks later.

Lawyer Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini, an aide to former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, publicly challenged the delay. “After verifying the bail conditions, the court directed CID to execute it,” he stated, noting police now demand pay slip verification from the Controller a step he calls unprecedented. “The IGP criticism seems to be the real issue,” Khomeini added, pointing out police already authenticated Pokuase’s controversial video.

Imagine being detained extra weeks despite jumping through every legal hoop. The activist had repeatedly accused the IGP of incompetence, fueling NPP suspicions of political targeting. Police have not clarified the verification holdup or commented on the allegations.
